Double member pallet lifters work well in facilities with narrow aisles.
Double member pallet lifters work well in facilities with narrow aisles.

Among the many lifting devices designed by Bushman Equipment, Inc., pallet lifters and crane attachments are two of the most versatile below-the-hook tools for loading, unloading, and transporting materials of various kinds and sizes. Pallet lifters are crane hoist attachments that maximize the efficiency of overhead material handling systems.  They are especially helpful in areas that have narrow storage aisles or are inaccessible with fork lift trucks.

Pallet Lifters for Cranes

Bushman Equipment, Inc. crane lifting attachments for pallets hang level when empty and when properly loaded. They feature high strength steel forks and welded steel construction that provide maximum strength, low unit weight and years of reliable service. All Bushman Equipment, Inc. pallet lifters meet or exceed the requirements of the ASME B30.20 and ASME Below-the-Hook Standards.

Crane Attachments Available Options

  • Crane lifting attachments with low headroom designs
  • Crane attachments with hand wheel or motorized fork adjustments
  • Crane lifting attachments with multiple fork units for unique load configurations
  • Crane attachment designs which function as a combination pallet lifter and coil handling device

Adapted From the Roll & Hold Newsletter

Portage is one of our fastest growing warehouses. The tonnage handled at Portage has doubled, and the inventory in the building has increased by 50%. The size of the building has not changed, so we had to find a way to shrink the space needed for some of the products they store.

Faced with the need to increase storage density, Portage Superintendent Earl Winslett and his crew began looking for ways to store more steel in less space. “The eye-to-the-sky area was an obvious place to start,” says Winslett. “We were handling those heavy coils with a large fork lift which required 22-foot wide aisles between stacks of product!”

Winslett wondered if there might be a way to handle this product with the overhead crane lifting attachments to eliminate the need for wide aisles. “I wanted to make the eye-sky area work like the other coil storage areas,” he remembers. Working with Bushman, a long-time Roll & Hold supplier, Winslett found that a powered Bushman coil grab, that they already owned, could be re-fitted with longer legs to create a pallet grab. This apparatus allows stacking and picking material on skids using the overhead crane. “We’ll could about double the tonnage per square foot stored in that part of the building,” Winslett calculated.

“In mid-October, we challenged Bushman to deliver this equipment before Thanksgiving,” said Bill Edwards, Vice President of Roll & Hold. “We told them we needed the equipment in time to create space for the year-end inventory build-up. They gasped when they heard this, but they delivered in four weeks with a full two weeks to spare!” By creatively shrinking the space consumed by an important piece of business, Roll & Hold-Portage has grown the tonnage they can accommodate.
